Buying Amazon giftcards through BitPay with XRP is now possible thanks to the integration with Ripple’s Xpring.

The BitPay cryptocurrency payment processing company now offers its users the possibility to buy Amazon giftcards using XRP funds.

This new property is part of the alliance between BitPay and Ripple’s solution provider platform, Xpring, which took place at the end of 2019 and incorporates the digital currency issued by the company to the services and solutions enabled by the payment processor for all its costumbers.

This was reported through Tiffany Hayden’s (Co-founder of Casheer Inc) Twitter page, whose message was shared by the co-founder of BitPay, Tony Gallipii.

This constitutes a great step for the payment processing company in its integration process for a greater amount of digital currencies, which aims to promote the adoption of these assets for the payment of products and services through its platform. In December 2019, BitPay also announced the incorporation of Gemini Dollar (GUSD), Paxos Standard Token (PAX) and USD Coin (USDC), leaving out the stablecoin Tether (USDT) which gained a lot of traction between merchants and users during this year.

BitPay, Amazon and the controversy with XRP

This small announcement comes amid what appears to be a tense moment for the XRP ecosystem, as the digital currency has been going through a series of situations that undermine its stability.

During 2018, several investors of the digital currency filed lawsuits with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ensuring that Ripple organized a pre-registered presale for the XRP token, so it should be considered as a security in accordance with current laws.

However, the CEO of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse, explained during an interview the reasons why they could not consider XRP as a value, ensuring that users of the digital currency do not have any shareholding in the issuing company, and that If something happened to the company, the cryptocurrency would continue to operate independently under the support of its community.

Days later, the director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission of the United States (CFTC), Heart Tarbert, indicated that the agency at the moment was not very clear about the definition under which the XRP token would fall, so there is no clarity about whether there is talk of a value or a commodity as in the case of Bitcoin and Ether.

At the moment, the possibility of buying Amazon giftcards does not seem to positively influence the price of the digital currency, since it is still quoting at about USD $ 0.22 per unit.
