It is well-known that there are a number of prominent business people who are skeptical about cryptocurrency. Even after a decade of bitcoin’s existence and the massive growth of cryptocurrency on the world stage, a number of people are still skeptical, branding it a scam or a fad. There was hope in the crypto community after Justin Sun, the CEO of Tron, secured a dinner meeting with legendary investor Warren Buffett after participating at a charity auction. Many hoped that the meeting would give Sun a chance to convince Warren Buffet of the benefits of cryptocurrency and convert him to the crypto side.
Unfortunately, it does not seem like that effort was very successful as Warren Buffett said in a recent interview that cryptocurrency is essentially worthless.
Recently, a fundraiser was held to support the Glide Foundation which looks to end homelessness in San Francisco, and in attendance was Justin Sun. It should be noted that the two had previously shared a meal together following Justin Sun’s winning bid at a charity auction. Since the meeting took place, many have been hoping to see some form of change in Warren Buffett’s attitude towards cryptocurrency. In a February 24, 2020 interview, Warren Buffett was quizzed on his views towards cryptocurrency and was asked if he was given any by Son.
“I don’t own any cryptocurrency. I never will… You can’t do anything with it except sell it to somebody else,” Buffett said.
He also made a reference to bitcoin being used for illegal activities around the globe as one of his reasons for not supporting it. It should be noted that the use of crypto for is one of the biggest criticisms and while there is evidence of its use in places such as the dark web, efforts are being made to combat this menace.
